The earliest Devon Minnow
There have been many theories over who invented the Devon Minnow, but the consensus seems to have settled on it being originally known as an Angel after the manufacturer in Totnes. Indeed, if you read Chris Sandford’s Book on British baits, he includes facsimile of an advert stating that if the lure isn’t stamped Angel Totnes then it isn’t the genuine article which became much copied over the decades.
I had never seen an Angel before, but recently one was purchased in amongst a selection of tackle, and I have attached a few photographs as I thought this may be of interest to historians and collectors alike.
